ABOUT THE ARTWORK

This painting makes part of the series "AEDES". The artwork is made in my author's technique combining acrylic paste and paper. Thus, the painting has a relief surface with pile (hair) fragments. These paper paintings are living creatures. I model these forms of life, involving images of their existence, taken with an electron microscope. The paintings are assembled from a large number of «hairs» made of paper, glue and acrylic. А hair growing on the skin is usually a sign of a living being. Likewise, my canvases are covered with hundreds and thousands of «hair» growing from them. I have always been inspired by the origin of life, its features, what it is or what it could be.

BIOGRAPHY My name is Gleb Skubachevsky, I am an artist, painter, is based in London, United Kingdom. I was born in Moscow in 1989. I acquired an excellent academic education. 2005-2010 – studying at the Moscow State Academic Art School in memory of 1905 2010-2016 – studying at the Moscow State Academic Art Institute named after V.I. Surikov 2013-2016- a turning point in my art biography was applying at Aidan Salakhova and Sergey Ossovsky’s studio “Contemmporary art”. Their mentorship became the starting point for the formation of my own artistic concept. I started to explore the possibilities of materials and the limits of reference, creating large canvases. Some more important steps in my artistic career: 2014 – "Flying City" The Museum Of Moscow Moscow, Russi In 2015, at the Dukley European Art Community I’ve finally developed my author’s technique on the border of painting and plasticity: ornate, fragile volumes of paper, mounted on a wooden panel. The artworks overcome the plane surface without losing the quality of pictorial abstraction. 2015-2015 – first solol exhibition “Spiritus ubi vult Spirat”, Dukley Residence, Kotor, Montenegro 2016 – first time resident of the gallery 11/12, CCA Winzavod, Moscow 2016 – first time at theyoung artists’ biennale “Moscow International Biennale of Contemporary Art”, CCA Winzavod, Moscow 2016 – joined the Union of Artists of Russia 2018 – the first participation at the International art fair “Cosmoscow”, Moscow 2022 – departure from Russia, for personal, political and universal human reasons 2023 – obtained a Global talent visa for the exceptional artistic abilities and moved to London I participated in numerous art residencies worldwide (see the list below) where I worked and collaborated with talented artists, whose works and concepts educated me and helped to understand aspects of different cultures. I’m constantly searching for new creative ideas and techniques. I developed my art from paintings on six-foot canvases to complex objects and sculptures. My artworks are in private collections in Great Britain, Montenegro, Greece, Italy, Austria, Germany, Slovakia, Switzerland, France, Brazil, Dubai, Georgia, Turkey and China.
