"Afternoon break" Painting

Artist Hyo-jin park has been working with the sea for a long time. The infinite rhythm and change of the image of the wave, as well as the loneliness and energy of recovery hidden within it, have been a deep inspiration to the artist.

In her early work, she looked at the sea as a realistic landscape, but she did not stop at simply describing the facts. She tried to convey the emotions and thoughts she felt through the movement of the waves, and read the tension, relaxation, and hope for life contained within them.

The Beautiful World series was born in this extension.

The early works of this series paradoxically tell the story of beauty blooming in adversity. It was an attempt to hide pain and sighs and instead sublimate them into a clearer and more tranquil screen. By revealing the depth of emotion but expressing it in a restrained manner, simplifying the image of the wave, and utilizing the blank space, she wanted to create a space where the viewer could project their own story.

She began to think about more abstract and implicit language, moving away from the realistic and concrete wave landscapes she had previously used, and this was a turning point for me as well. With this series, I wanted to explore the possibility that beauty is not simply a visible landscape, but can still shine despite the wounds and adversities of human beings.

My gaze is still on the waves, but I wanted to tell a deeper and more universal story beyond them.
I am moving from the familiar image of the sea to paintings that can contain more emotion, lingering feelings, and the complexity of life.
