About The Artwork

I keep thinking of inspiration, the creative process and the forces behind it. In my village, two deities Agwu and Ogwugwu are powerful forces. Agwu is synonymous with ingenuity, in its extremity mad genius. Ogwugwu is a female deity, the force behind Creativity. There is such a thin line between madness and genius. Eyes pop up in various parts, like the human brain with grey matter and knowledge bursting out. My paintings evolve over a period of close observations and reworking so the dates are usually not specific to the timeline for the process. Acrylic paint allows me to work fluidly between quick sessions and slower work days, drying sufficiently to suit my temperament. Abstraction best allows the freedom of interpretation of such a complex idea that relates to the creative muse, inspiration and creativity. The formal elements of the piece borrow loosely from the linear, curvilinear and spatial feel of traditional Uli and Nsukka art.
