About The Artwork

The work was inspired by the kazakh legend of beautiful Aisha Bibi. According to the legend her father was against her love to Karakhan and she disobeyed him by running away to her beloved one. In 11-12th century such an act was considered an unheard-of insolence. Learning about the escape of his daughter, father exclaimed "You will cross the six rivers, and the seventh you can not cross". As legend has it, Aisha was bitten by snake just before crossing 7th river and meeting her love. Karakhan ordered the construction of the tomb to commemorate her and their love for eternity. Nowadays it is known as Aisha Bibi Mausoleum and situated in Taraz, Kazakhstan. More than 8 centuries it has been standing in spite of winds and bad weather, as a witness to the great love.
