Framed Dimensions: 185,5 x 125,5 X 6 cm Wooden black box frame. Artworks sometimes represent tales. Short stories. Thoughts and ideas. They use the power of the visual image to ignite imaginations, amuse and evoke emotions. The viewer complete those stories and visual expressions with its contemplation. The language in the artworks combines a symbolic narrative full of pop culture references. Iconic cinema and video game characters, influential public figures or recognizable symbols in history. Icons that elevate into a some kind of contemporary religion using pictorial resources retrieved from classical paintings. It is a dialogue between the viewer and the artwork in a language that doesn’t need to be learned. This artwork is painted on handmade paper, mounted on wood. The paper collected mainly from the received postal mail is recycled by grinding it with a blender. The paper pulp is mixed with glue and water and pressed directly into the wooden frame. Finally all those mail messages become support for the artwork. The painting is inspired on a real postage stamp of 1926. The stamp commemorated the 62nd birthday of the Spanish Red Cross. In the close up detail, we can see the cracked paint pattern originated by an artificial process of ageing.

José Luis Ferragut was born in Valencia in 1969, although very soon he moved to Madrid. He works as a commercial director and artist. After studying Communication Design at the prestigious Parsons School of Design of New York, he started his career in Paris as an Art Director. He returned to Spain later on and worked as Creative for more than a decade in different advertising agencies before making the transition into directing. He has received numerous awards and distinctions over the years, including best director at APCP and more recently, a Bronze Lion at Cannes Festival. Painting has accompanied him throughout his whole creative career. The language in his works combines a symbolic narrative full of pop culture references, with a very refined pictorial technique. With his paintings, Ferragut always plays with perceptions that go beyond the artwork to become sensation and emotion, inviting the viewer to join a dialogue that will not leave him indifferent. His last solo exhibition "Linking Words" took place in The Cultural Center Anabel Segura in Madrid.
