About The Artwork

I started 2019 watching a documentary about H.R. Giger and his work inspired me more than I realized until this painting happened. This is one of my most loved works. Its beauty is so unnatural and glowing. like Alien eggs hanging from the ceiling. I want them to crack and open up... The art of painting with fluid acrylics is very fragile and hard to control. Randomness and the character of each paint is always part of the process and can be seen in the finished work. Nothing can be recreated, as every piece is just a preserved moment in time. Every piece has to dry for at least 2 days. This is the most fragile part, as it can be destroyed even by the smallest things like dust. The whole painting can just flow from the canvas when it is not laying flat at that point. With this technique, Claudia Hoffmann-Kaeufer conserves short moments of her inner, ever flowing world: „It is like taking a screenshot of my inner being and bringing this outside so that others can identify and connect with it.“

Claudia Hoffmann-Kaeufer is an abstract painter, who uses fluid acrylics to create colorful, detailed artworks. She loves contrasts and rythms, as they represent the changing environment she grew up with, in an area that changed from industrial coal mining to becoming the european capital of culture in 2010. Her spontaneous painting style is a representation of her acknowledgement of sudden change, both positive and negative, which is due to the fact, that the birth of her daughter and the death of her father happened only a few months apart. Her color palete is strongly influenced by Marco Bucci. Combining colors that have a conversation is her first step when starting a painting.
