Inspired by the agony of a lifetime of pain that came to a head when my father passed away on Father's Day, "An Ocean Of Sorrow Surrounds This Home" is a monument to the toll living with mental illness, sadness, loneliness, and grief, slowly takes over the course of a lifetime, and the feeling of complete helplessness that often accompanies it. The work was fueled by a line from one of my favorite songs, which also serves as the title of this work. Furthermore, the title of the song from which this line comes, is also the name of my first solo exhibition and ongoing series - Asleep In The Deep. At its core, this painting is a portrait of complete sorrow, and in a way serves as a preface to the Asleep In The Deep series.
