This piece wasn't born from sight, but from sound. It was born from the echo of a solitary melody in an empty room, from that bittersweet feeling we call nostalgia. I didn't want to paint a man playing an instrument; I wanted to paint the very sound of memory. That moment when a scent or a song brea...

I paint from the gut. With everything I am and with everything that I feel. I started almost thirty years ago doing figurative portraits. I wanted to capture faces, icons, with precision, with force… almost with obsession. That’s where I learned to tame form and emotion. But life kept breaking that need for control in me. Little by little. Without asking permission. Today I don’t want to copy anything anymore. I don’t want anything to make logical sense. I paint what I feel. Period. Color that screams, gesture that overflows, shapes that are born and break without asking for explanation. Each canvas is a piece of me in that exact moment: the rage, the joy that burns, the emptiness that suddenly fills with light, the silence that explodes. I don’t know what’s going to come out when I stand in front of the easel. And that’s what I like the most. I want whoever owns one of my works to stand there looking at it and wonder: “What the hell was Carlos feeling when he painted this?” “What was he going through?” “What was happening inside him?” And that they never find the same answer. Because each person will read it according to what they themselves are carrying that day. My painting is no longer mine. It becomes the viewer’s. This evolution from the figurative to pure abstract expressionism is not just a change of style. It is my own change as a person. From wanting to control everything… to letting myself be carried away by what I truly am. If you are a collector and one of these pieces moved something inside you, if you feel it already belongs to you… let’s talk. I am open to commissions and to my work traveling with you to the other side of the world. Carlos Apartado Mexico City, 2026
