1981 born in Barcelona, lives and works in Barcelona (Spain) My artistic practice focuses on the exploration of painting as a physical and three-dimensional entity. Through material abstraction, I investigate the relationship between the spontaneous gesture and the resistance of the materials. I use mixed media to build layers of history on the canvas, where relief and texture are not just visual accidents, but the primary language of the work. I am interested in how the accumulation of matter can evoke emotional landscapes or the passing of time, inviting the viewer not only to observe, but to feel the density and the weight of the composition. Each piece is a dialogue between the artist's control and the organic nature of the materials, seeking a balance between visual chaos and structural harmony. I sold over 200 artworks to private worlwide collectors in different countries. "Carlos Villena is a visual and sound artist established in Barcelona who carries out a multidisciplinary work with a strong political content and Social. His left-wing and anti-capitalist ideology, and his condition as an animalist and vegan, play a relevant role in his proposal." Regió7 :: El Diari de la Catalunya Central (Spain) "From seething Barcelona, Carlos Villena is a multidisciplinary artist both versed in music & graphic design. Carlos has produced many limited releases, most of his released works so far were either solos excursions or splits with the likes of Francisco López, Z’ev, Cornucopia, Freiband, Jan Kees Helms which have resided on his own label, Mantricum. Working on the combined fringes from many genres, Carlos has clearly a talent in shaping engaging the listener in hallucinating moving images through sound-sculpture, ultimately gripping environmental ambiances producing colorful moods."
