We were all born to paint, to write, to make music … to create. But somewhere along our path we are taught that we are no longer worthy to use these talents – that we have become too old – that this part of our life has passed us by. The idea of picking up a paintbrush or pen or guitar leaves visions of mistakes playing around in our heads. But mistakes are a creator’s best friend. Mistakes are the parts of art that are so catching. My figures are simple, with joints that bend backwards and mismatched body parts. I'm trying to give the viewer an adventure that is as fun as it was for me to paint.

Sarah Fox: From Novels to Joyful Canvases Sarah Fox, a painter and former novelist, brings a unique perspective shaped by her diverse background. Born in Athens, Georgia, she grew up across the East Coast and even lived in Paris before settling in Putney, Vermont. Fox's artistic journey began with writing. Her talent was recognized by Jackie Kennedy Onassis, and her debut novel, "Hairdo," found a champion in publisher Jamie Raab. She went on to write four novels, translated into 14 languages, including the novelization of "A League of Their Own." However, a passion for sculpting and painting simmered beneath the surface. Now, Fox has embraced visual arts full-time, showcasing her work at the Portfolio Art Gallery in Columbia, South Carolina, and even gracing the lobby of The Homestead Inn, once a prestigious Relais & Châteaux property in Greenwich, Connecticut. A Playful Approach to Art Fox's artistic philosophy emphasizes the joy of creation. "Discipline and remembering to play with words" is her motto, applied to both writing and painting. She finds inspiration in the uninhibited spirit of children who paint skies green and cows with five legs. This playful approach keeps her art fresh and avoids getting bogged down in overthinking. Embrace the Mistakes, Find Your Voice Fox believes everyone has the innate ability to create, but societal pressures often stifle this urge. Her message is to overcome the fear of mistakes, which are a natural part of the creative process and can even lead to unexpected beauty. By embracing the joy and the inevitable missteps, we can reconnect with the creative spark that resides within all of us. A Shift in Focus This shift to visual arts isn't a complete departure from Fox's past. She acknowledges her fulfilling prior career, but her heart now lies with bringing her artistic vision to life. While paint and brush are her current tools, a secret desire simmers beneath the surface. Fox has always enjoyed sculpting on a small scale with clay, but deep down, she harbors a dream of working with metal. The image of her flipping down a visor, kneeling with sparks flying as she welds massive pieces together, ignites a fire in her soul. Perhaps, one day, she'll explore this hidden passion, adding another dimension to her already vibrant artistic journey. Sparks fly, then a splatter, Wrong weld joins, a flaw revealed, Beauty in the scars.
