Inspired by the recent scientific discovery of the most probable collision between the Andromeda Galaxy and the Milky Way millions of years from now, this painting depicts the Greek myth of princess Andromeda being saved by prince Perseus from her sacrifice. In this version of the myth Perseus rides Pegasus, the winged horse, and slays the sea creature with the aid of Medusa's head. Behind the figure of Andromeda stands a statue of the goddess Hera from whom our galaxy, the Milky Way was created according to Greek mythology. Several constellations are depicted in the painting: Perseus, Andromeda, Cassiopea and others as well as the red star Betelgeuse from the Orion constellation. Also depicted is the Milky Way as it springs out of Hera's breast "colliding" with Andromeda. The instrument of sacrifice, a sea monster, is in this case a Mosasaur alluding to fossilisation or "turning into stone" as it was said, Medusa's gaze had the ability to do. This painting is a tribute to Astronomy and the beauty of our Universe.
