About The Artwork

This painting is shipped unframed. Lord Shiva is often referred to the symbolism of ultimate masculinity, but in this depiction we see him in the Ardhanarishwara form, where one half of him is a fully developed woman. The ancient lore is that Shiva was in an ecstatic condition and because of that, Goddess Parvati was drawn towards him. Goddess Parvati said, “This State that you are in within yourself, I wish to experience it as well. What should I do? Tell me. I am willing to do anything.” Lord Shiva smiled and said, “There is no need for you to do any great task but just come and sit on my lap.” She Came to him with absolutely no resistance and with mellifluous devotion sat on his left lap. Since she had placed herself totally in his hands, he just pulled her in and she becomes half of him. The Union of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati in such a form basically expresses that if the inner masculine and feminine meet within one soul, you are in a perpetual state of ecstasy.
