"I paint to tell thrills, feelings, stories that go beyond me. "Je peins pour raconter des sensations, des états d’âme, des histoires qui me dépassent. Illustratrice, directrice artistique, professeure d’histoire de l’art et d’arts appliqués, Helen Uter est une femme d’images. Parallèlement à son activité professionnelle elle développe des recherches artistiques personnelles. Nourrie des œuvres de peintres tels que Hopper, Vélikovic, Freud, Bacon, ainsi que ceux de la figuration narrative comme Monory, elle a suivi ce conseil : "n'apprenez pas à peindre, peignez !" Helen Uter peint et sculpte depuis 1995. L’originalité de son travail provient probablement de sa double nationalité française et américaine La recherche de ses racines l’entraîne vers des sujets oniriques, parfois troublants, irréels ou ambigus. Ses toiles sont peintes sans recherches d'effets ou d'artifices, au profit de la narration. Des représentations métaphoriques qui expriment des vérités au delà de leur forme visible. A l’objectivité des objets du monde se substitue la subjectivité du peintre. Quand on lui demande d'expliquer ses tableaux, elle cite Francis Bacon : “Si on peut le dire, pourquoi s’embêter à le peindre ?”
