ABOUT THE ARTWORK

I had these sunflowers in the studio at the end of last summer as fresh, vibrant, yellow blooms. As the summer faded into autumn and then into winter they slowly dried, fading from blooms into dry stems. For me they encapsuated the inevitable movement of one season into another, of time and longevity. It brings to mind our own continual movement though our lives. As a result the painting reminds me to live now, enjoy where we are and what we are doing. To remember to live fully and happily. This cycle will continue for me this year because I have retained some of the seeds from these sunflowers which I will be planting in the spring. I plan to repeat the drying process again at the end of this summer before painting them again next year and repeating it the year after. I hand-build all of my stretcher frames from scratch before stretching and priming the canvas ready for painting. This gives me the ability to keep waste to a minimum. The sunflowers are painted using my signature materials of highy textured white oil paint and cement powder onto canvas. It is signed with the artists symbol on the front and signature on the verso. The painting comes framed in a high quality black and gold wooden frame. Framed size is 74cms x 74cms x 6cms and is ready for hanging. A Certificate of Authenticity signed by the artist come with the painting.

SHIPPING AND RETURNS
Delivery Time:

Typically 5-7 business days for domestic shipments, 10-14 business days for international shipments.

Born in West London, the view from my childhood bedroom window was the iconic big blue gasometer on the industrial site of Southall Gasworks, where my grandfather and great-grandfather worked. It might explain why industrial spaces have always held a slightly fearful fascination for me and influence so much of my work. I see myself primarily as a painter but don't restrict myself solely to painting. You'll find a lot of textured white oil paint in my paintings, often accented with cement powder. Gold leaf, metallic mediums and found items make regular appearances too.  Our interactions with buildings, spaces and our environment and the effect they have on us in return is what inspires me and drives me to pick up my brushes. It's the way they influence us by informing, distracting, coerceing or shaping our conscious and subconscious and the effect that has on our behaviour. Are we better or worse for the interactions? Do we have a choice?
