Harkrader attended the Mountain Lake Symposiums and Workshops in the 80s. These historic conferences featured luminaries; including Sally Mann, John Cage, Suzi Gablik, Howard Finster, Wayne Thiebaud and others. These salon-like workshops had a profound effect on Harkrader’s emerging art. Harkrader attended the 2007 Web Flash Festival & Conference, hosted at the Centre Pompidou, Paris France. In 2011, Roanoke Valley Sister Cities selected Harkrader for an artist residency in Opole, Poland which included a dozen artists from Eastern and Western Europe. Past experiences, present environment, imagination, and experimentation with mixed media-mediums allow me to echo my passions, peace, or pleasure.
