Inspired by Barocci's painting 'Assumption of the Virgin' - love the colors & flow. For a 16th century artist, his work has a very contemporary feel, particularly his use of color. This is my take on it - almost abstract painted in a very gestural way.

Taking a lot of inspiration from old masters, particularly from the Rococo/Baroque era, I'm especially drawn to the composition, colors & fabrics and like to put my contemporary twist on it. Painting in a very expressive way, abstract elements are explored in these figurative subjects and the spaces in between. Using a variety of media such as acrylic, charcoal, plaster & pastel I'm constantly experimenting with textures & layers to convey flow & movement. Throughout my artistic career I've exhibited widely across the UK and Europe in both group and solo shows, as well as having work regularly published. My work can be found in private collections around the world from Europe, US & Canada, to the United Arab Emirates, South Africa, Puerto Rico & Mexico. www.mandyracine.com
