Asymmetric Wave Painting

A stylised tunnel-wave with a sunset behind; this was created in response to a challenge from my daughter to create a beach themed artwork. Ink and acrylic paint have been used recreate the chaotic movement and colour of the water. Glass crystals and real-metal glitter have been used to create the pounding surf. Drawn lines have been added to the wave to emphasise the shape and movement of the wave. The deep blues and greens of the water have been contrasted with purple and iridescent ink as well as multiple colours of glass crystals and abalone shell which finish off the edges of this unframed piece. Resin has been poured over the surface in incomplete layers to give depth, shine and texture. The shape of the board (which is a recycled coffee table top) has an interesting asymmetry which complements the design. The glass used is reclaimed and recycled. The abalone shell used was ethically sourced. I aim to have as low an impact as possible on the environment without compromising my artistic integrity.
