ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Inspired by classical Greece sculpture and relief such as the Frieze of the Athena Nike temple in Athens, the painting is a cloth thrown work acheiving the look of a draped figure rendering. The painting is part of a series of four which can stand together under the title "Athena Sandalizousa (Athena reajusting her sandal). It is also part of a wider project : "To reconstruct Antique Greece", based on the idea of ruin and nostalgia (in its ethymological sens : homesickness, the longing of the origins). The work is made of white gesso on black gesso, is completly flat and is produced by a very straitforward, direct, gesture. The contrast of white over black produces a striking effect of relief while the gesture produces a seizing effect of movement.
