This is a painting of the view from the hill behind my studio overlooking Port Gaverne in North Cornwall. I started the painting on the day of the Autumn Equinox 2017. This also coincided with Cornwall being hit by the tail end of Hurricane Ophelia. At midday the sky turned yellow and the sun became a vermillion orb. It created a very surreal atmosphere which I have tried to capture in this painting. I was inspired by the heightened colour, the cyclonic gales and the menacing cloud formations. Sombre but very beautiful.

His dramatic, emotionally charged paintings skillfully capture the light and atmosphere of the wild Cornish coast. Andrew Palmer. Artists Statement. April 2012. "I am very influenced by the sea and have always been fascinated by its power and ever changing moods. I immerse myself in the dramatic land and seascapes that surround me in Cornwall and initially make studies,in oil on canvas or board, painting quickly using bold and vigorous brushstrokes to express my subjective response to the location. In the studio I work from these studies on larger paintings which are often more abstract and expressive, while still conveying the atmosphere and specific sense of place of the original subject." www.andrewpalmerart.co.uk facebook: andrewjohnpalmer andrewjohnpalmer.wordpress.com
