ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Seal script calligraphy brushed on rice paper, ready to be framed. Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva is depicted as 觀自在菩薩, Japanese Kanjizai Bosatsu, Chinese Guanzizai Pusa. The three characters 觀自在 Guan zi zai, Kan ji zai mean to view inward and to become free from worries and problems. The two translations I like most for 觀自在 is 'Contemplating Ease', as explained by the late Chinese Master Hsuan Hua and 'Free And Unrestricted Seeing' as translated by Red Pine in The Collected Songs of Cold Mountain. With this Zen calligraphy I want to invoke the enlightened activity of Avalokiteshvara, the Bodhisattva of Compassion and of the Perfection of Wisdom teachings of the Heart Sutra. I have brushed the calligraphy in seal script style to stress the unattached and pure nature of Avalokiteshvara' s name. Size of the calligraphy in cm: 35,5 x 129 cm x 0,1 cm

SHIPPING AND RETURNS
Delivery Time:

Typically 5-7 business days for domestic shipments, 10-14 business days for international shipments.

My artwork comprises Zen calligraphy, watercolor and ink paintings, and abstract calligraphies. My mediums are ink, watercolors and natural pigments on rice paper, mainly Xuan paper. I wield the Chinese and Japanese brush, preferably the flexible sheep's hair brush. Many of my Zen calligraphies express the Emptiness teaching from the Heart Sutra, which has been the original inspiration for my Japanese calligraphy artwork. Other calligraphies focus on the teachings of the Diamond Sutra, Platform Sutra, or depict Zen koan, Zen poetry or single kanji. In my watercolors and ink paintings I strive for a pictorial synthesis of the subject, in the spirit of Japanese ink painting, using bold washes and vivid brush strokes.
