Azules Painting

Contact: Manolo Sánchez is a watercolour artist and draughtsman of great experience who has taken part in over 150 solo exhibitions both in Spain and abroad, 80 of which have been in the Canaries. His name had appeared among the most renowned painters in the Canary Islands. Since 1966, he started a new stage with experimental watercolour, sketched in a spontaneous, agile work sustained in a slightly watercoloured drawing. He was born on 22nd of October 1930 in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. This famous artist is a member of The Watercolour Society of Tenerife, Barcelona and Mexico; The Academy of Arts and Sciences of Puerto Rico and Burckardt in Rome and The Institute of Canary Studies. He has also been secretary and president of the Painting Section at the Fine Arts Circle in Tenerife, President of the Canarian Association of Watercolourists, guest of honour of Tarragona Watercolour Society and Honorary President of the Catalonian Society of Watercolourists. He has been awarded prizes in Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Madrid, Barcelona, Huelva and La Coruña in Spain. In Italy, in Rome, Naples, Monteccatini, Secondigliano. And Salerno, where he received a plaque in recognition of his work. He has published books with drawings about Tenerife, La Gomera and the 1980 earthquake in Salerno, Italy, and folders with artwork about Tenerife, La Palma, La Gomera and El Hierro, also folders for Granadilla, Güimar, La Laguna and the Advisory Council. He has illustrated many books, posters and labels. Along with stage sets designs for Guimerá, Leal and The Fine Arts Circle Theatres. His work is in private collections in the Canaries, Europe and America and in museums in the Canary Islands, Barcelona (Provincial Council) and Hermano Pedro de Guatemala. There are numerous private Collectors of Manolo’s art that own an original painting. It is the case of Ex President Obama, and Elisabeth II The Queen of England. National Museum of La Havana, Cuba owns some artworks too. In 1966 ay the Ateneo de La Laguna, he held an Experimental Watercolour Exhibition with Raul Tabares which marked a milestone in the Canary Islands for its modernity.
