ABOUT THE ARTWORK

This painting is part of the series: Connectedness I am drawn to painting birds because they are so much a part of our habitat and lend themselves naturally as a subject that is integral to the idea of connectedness and symbiosis. The inspiration for this collection is the concept of connectedness and vibration. The colours, lines, shapes, and forms relate to the elements and our surrounding environment. Some lines of connectedness are clear and other lineations are blurred; actions reverberate across multiple platforms. This is an original painting and is signed on the back by the artist.

I am a self-taught artist inspired by nature and the movements within it; and the symbiosis of that plays a significant role within my artwork. I would describe my style as fun, playful, sweet and little whimsical. I am drawn to vibrant and saturated colours, and being creative uplifts me in a way that's indescribable. When it comes to my paintings, I start with a vision of an image and colours, which progressively morphs and changes as my hand begins to lead and "thinking" is left behind. I believe that I am a facilitator allowing the shades and forms to transform organically. I am no longer the director, but the actor of the play. I am interested in how light falls on the palette and canvas, and how shadows and tones change with every layer added and subtly transforms the subject. Experimenting with the paint - vibrant and saturated pigments - pushing and pulling; layering till the body of my work comes alive, immersed in the shapes, lines and drips, and marks that brush strokes leave behind. It is my belief that every painting should speak and move its viewer and evoke curiosity, happiness, confusion, or even sorrow. Frequently nature is a principle theme that emerges from my abstract work.
