Backyard Flowers No. 10 Painting

Backyard Flowers No. 10 was created with artist-made acrylic-based paint. The paint I make is super-saturated with pigment which produces exceptionally bright colors. The image ground is composed of a thin layer of porcelain which coats a wooden substrate. Some paintings are manifested from visual memory where as others are constructed from mental images formed during the painting process in response to stimulus in the studio such as music and audio recordings. This painting is the 10th iteration of studies made of the flowers that grow in my backyard garden. It was made using a photograph I shot for reference. The photo serves as a compositional reference early in the process. The painting grows into something unique based on that foundation. The finished work captures the light, mood and energy of the original setting, but is transformed into a new beautiful thing.
