I'm a painter living in Los Angeles and working in Inglewood. Each time I start a new work I look for fresh ways to depict the agency of trees.
My purpose is to address several issues: to subvert the notion that trees are mere passive plants that only give us shade; to reflect the discoveries that research scientists are revealing about measurable complex interconnectivity between differing species both above and below ground; and to promote our being agents for positive change. By employing paint, collage, and drawing, I create landscapes that convey the mental and moral climate of our time. In this colorful series, trees and forests express our shared world-wide interdependence with all living things.
My work has been exhibited in the United States and Europe and is in private, corporate, and museum collections. The paintings have been included in several publications, including "Embodied Forest" by Patricia Watts, Santa Fe, NM, (publisher: ecoartspace, 2021),
“The Artist Portrait Project: A Photographic Memoir of Portrait Sessions with San Diego Artists, 2006-2016,” by Jennifer G. Spencer (She Writes Press, 2018) and “Feminists Who Changed America,” by Barbara J. Love, ed. (University of Illinois Press, Urbana, and Chicago, 2006).
