Basil's Folly No.6 is part of the Basil's Folly series. This painting introduces touches of bright saturated color and more expressive, almost confetti like brushwork. When I originally started the series I was thinking about how children like to pretend and imagine wonderful things when they play – anything and everything is possible. I began thinking about a child’s game that included an invisible folly. By folly, I mean the architectural definition: whimsical or extravagant structure built to serve as a conversation piece, lend interest to a view found especially in England in the 18th century. Where would this imaginary folly game exist for you? Initially I 'placed' the unseen folly in abstracted landscape settings but now, the environment has shifted to include bright playful colors and expressive paint handling. Basil's Folly No.6 : {+} Is created with acrylic paint and gel medium on archival 100% cotton Rives BFK paper {+} Will be carefully packaged including a pH neutral barrier to protect the surface {+} Signed and dated on the back, small signature on the front {+} Fine layer of matte archival varnish applied to front of artwork to protect and inhibit UV damage {+} The full paper size is 22w x 30h (76.2 x 55.88cm) however I am suggesting a 1-2" crop / mat allowance for the framer. The interior design image above helps show how the painting could look framed.

Sara Richardson is a professional working artist based in Virginia. Her artwork is poetic and hopeful with a dash of mystery. She explores the emotional relationships between nature and humanity by creating expressive, high-contrast gestural works that reflect abstracted sentiments, curiosity and wonder. +++ "My work explores the complex relationship between nature and what it means to be human in our contemporary world. To seek and discover meaning in unexpected ways. I have found, you can not have a complete understanding of joy without sadness; happiness without sorrow or beauty without an edge. Therefore, a thread of contrasting emotions in my work is always present to bring these complexities into the foreground...this is what makes the work feel like visual poetry." +++ Learn more > @ SaraRichardsonArtist
