Following a trip to Bermuda, questioning the mystery of the numerous wrecks lying at the bottom arises. This composition evokes legends, trickery, and mystifications about messages from the past. It is evident that all too often, wars erase our cultural history. We know that today, some historical events depicted in the arts are exaggerated. The representation of ships from the 11th to the 13th century, not well-suited for navigation on the high seas and incapable of accommodating the heavy artillery of the time, suggests that such a battle could not have taken place. A historical anachronism that, over the course of our evolution, reveals certain truths. Image manipulation still persists today and constantly leads us to fact-check current events! A factual vigilance that should prompt us to conduct our own experiments, even at the cost of our lives. Sometimes, it is simpler and more convenient to say that ignorance shields us from lack by sacrificing truth for aesthetics. These boats seem to be drawn upward toward the sky by a swirling movement, they rise in altitude, an elevation of perspective or spirit, perhaps the exhilaration of combat. The theme of elevated perspective, necessary for victory, and thus for freedom, is echoed. Freedom is available within each of us to write a future that is free and virtuous.

EN Just as cave art was born from the observation of the environment and often rich in relevant details, Cédric LENEUTRE adopts a similar approach in understanding and representing his era: observing and evolving factual principles into a fresh perspective. He creates a link between the Upper Paleolithic and our contemporary era to allow the continuation of prehistoric history where it left off. This can be seen as a sign that humans have always been programmed for creation. Far from wrapping everything in adjectives and risking being confined to the realm of illustration, his visual representations can step out of their narrative context to belong to their own conceptual domain and function independently. Representing appearances without their contexts and then juxtaposing forms beyond their character, juggling with improbable contrasts, surprising and captivating the viewer—this is Cédric LENEUTRE’s challenge, perhaps a bold gamble, certainly a novelty, and an indisputable metaphysical emotion: one just needs to open their eyes.
