ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Beetlejuice is one of those characters that is just immediately recognizable and showcases a childhood nostalgia in just about anyone who sees him. I wanted to choose a profile of him at his kinda looniest without going over the top of cartoon, and I fell on this intro image. I avoided the stark striped suit as that pulls the eye enough, I wanted something that drew your eye to him specifically. Using some highlights, I was able to really contrast the lighting across his face while still keeping the background a bit abstractly out of focus. Loved how this turned out, feeling cold and dusty but still loud and vibrant. Also used iridescent paint to lay some strips over his shoulder, so when the light hits it right it will show his signature stripes but it's not right in your view. See for more!

I don't know precisely when it started, but I've considered myself an artist for as long as I can remember. As a child, I recall spending afternoons with my grandmother, sketching faces and whatever random superhero or Ninja Turtle was in my mind at the time. My grandmother being the only person in my life at the time that could 'wow' me with her art. She would freehand these incredible profiles of anyone in front of her or often from memory. As I grew through schooling, I always had art on the schedule and I almost always had a sketchbook with me. I didn't seriously get into painting until my early teens, but I've had a love affair with paint ever since. I always made it a point to find time to create something each year. And I would use my abilities to give friends and family members gifts when I couldn't think of a material item to buy them. There was something powerful in creating rather than just selecting off a shelf and being able to share it with someone. I love the idea of offering my skills to commissions and helping people find joy in the craft and capturing a little bit of magic on a canvas for them to share with their friends and family. I'm currently working on building a personal portfolio and I want to share them with you. Using my love of movies and comics to help find inspiration, but I also enjoy just being able to capture a moment of emotion in time. Using the memories of my Grandmother as guidance, I hope to showcase worthwhile portraits and other images to spark emotion and nostalgia for you to have in your living space, or to share with someone you care about.
