Wanting to illustrate the forces of the natural world, I chose to paint the moment before the elements unleashed. In this landscape, it is a charged and tormented sky that symbolizes the strength contained, the fragmented and dynamic forms of the clouds are accentuated by the quiet opposition of the almost uniform expanse of pale and light soil that resembles fine sand. The black mass of the central silhouette accentuates the power of the coming rampage while creating a visual link between the sky and the earth. I hope that I have succeeded in representing this very special atmosphere of these moments of transition that are both quiet and disturbing.
