View In My Room
A man paints red stripes on the dead body of a headless tuna. He seems concentrated and tense as if this strange action was part of his daily work. This impression is supported by his clothes and the tiled room in which he stands - a professional at work here. But what should the painting do? It could be a reference to the bloody business of overfishing, but also an attempt at label fraud. Or does the painter want to make the fish inedible in order to save the species from extinction? However, it is already too late for this fish.

Ralph Hackeland was born in Cologne in 1965, later lived on Lake Constance for many years and has worked as a freelance painter, graphic artist and designer in Mannheim since studying communication design. In his figurative works, well-known, universal elements and motifs are brought together, creating a dream-like world in the new constellation. The actors seem strangely removed and seem stuck in inevitable developments. The images are snapshots of these developments and become a still image of an inner film, the further course of which is decided by the viewer.
