For last 21 years, Jaren has been working with reflections. "Berkeley #9" is one of a series of reflections that were photographed at the Berkeley Marina, Berkeley, CA. The selected image was manipulated in his computer to add contrast, saturation and distortions to enchance the abstraction. Once satisfied with resulting image, he in recent years adds the geometric elements. The resulting images make up a series of paintings that has been described as: "These surrealistic fractured light paintings are based on the concept of how reflections create abstracted images. This fusion of light creates surprising contrasts and intense colors, while often producing confused lines and seems somehow familiar yet new. Both striking, bold and beautiful artworks." My hope is the viewer has a similar reaction as did the gallerist who is quoted here. The painting is unframed, painted on 0.25" Masonite and the edges of painting will need to be framed to allow proper hanging of the art work. It is signed, dated and the title is on the back of the painting.
