About The Artwork
Artist Berry Kim presents her observations of how our appearance-based, materialistic capitalistic society causes people to be unaware of their individual charm and self-worth. Her expressions are presented in a whimsical manner through creations of fantastical radiant worlds bursting with color and detail. “I’m not perfect, but I find my happiness as I walk my journey in finding my own charm. I unravel these thoughts and processes in my work and I want to share these values that empower me – the truth of how charming your own self is!” Beauty standards and expensive luxury goods have been the indicator of success on social media in our day and age. We gradually lose ourselves for the sake of likes and fitting ourselves into boxes of images online.” In a pop culture manner, Berry creates immersive installations of multimedia works, paintings, drawings, objects and wearable art, critically considering commerce and materialism.
