This piece is from a series of paintings of model Bethany, that I painted when on a Tim Benson portrait workshop. Tim, President of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters amongst other accolades, is known for his large loose brush marks which make up a patchwork of colour to complete his portraits. It's a style which I had previously employed - I love being able to applying loose marks of colour to my work. The paintings were all made over a few days, with one wide brush per painting and only a limited palette, comprising: Titanium White, French Ultramarine Blue, Lemon Yellow, Cadmium Red, Burnt Umber and Alizarin Crimson.

I am a British figurative artist, based in West Sussex. I adore painting people, relishing the challenge to get an accurate likeness whilst trying to keep my brush marks lively, colourful and interesting. I am passionate about colour. I have studied life drawing for many years, in which I developed my style and use of many media - starting with charcoal and pastel and other dry media, experimenting with mark making in tandem with close observation; then I moved onto paint, currently oils, which has been a constant joy and exploration. My current work explores the fleeting moments of commuters in the rain. I am available for commissions.
