ABOUT THE ARTWORK

This piece is from a series of paintings of model Bethany, that I painted when on a Tim Benson portrait workshop. Tim, President of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters amongst other accolades, is known for his large loose brush marks which make up a patchwork of colour to complete his portraits. It's a style which I had previously employed - I love being able to applying loose marks of colour to my work. The paintings were all made over a few days, with one wide brush per painting and only a limited palette, comprising: Titanium White, French Ultramarine Blue, Lemon Yellow, Cadmium Red, Burnt Umber and Alizarin Crimson.

Sheri Gee

Sheri Gee

United Kingdom

Sheri Gee is a West Sussex, UK, based artist, specialising in oil painting. Working with her time and spatial constraints as a working mother and artist, Sheri Gee’s work often derives from people watching – using the everyday moments in her non-studio time to influence her paintings. Stemming from many years of life drawing, Gee has an enduring passion for depicting the figure. Amongst her themes, Gee has long been captivated by the solitary commuter in the rain, drawn to the passing colours of coats and umbrellas, lights and reflections. With a degree in Illustration, since graduation Gee has been daily learning and growing her fine art practice. In 2018 Gee was selected as one of 21 finalists in the Holly Bush Emerging Woman Painter Prize and shortlisted for the same prize in 2022. She has exhibited with the Sussex Contemporary and the Society of Women Artists amongst others. Sheri is available for commission.
