Bewitched Painting

After graduating from Canterbury College of Art in 1968, I began my working life in the record industry, designing album covers and publicity material at Decca and EMI. Going freelance in 1981, I went on to be a founder member of Clinic, a design and advertising company whose clients included Virgin, Sky, Barclays, Network Rail and Orange. Since retiring in 2007, I have been vigorously engaged in catching up with personal projects that remained on hold during my years of full-time employment. After years spent promoting all kinds of popular culture, it's no surprise that my work continues to draw inspiration from music, film, TV, literature, social history and events. Much of my work is thematic, whereby paintings and photographs are planned as a series, linked by a common thread. My personal heroes, film noire, police mug shots and the American Southwest have all provided me with subjects that have found their way onto paper, canvas and into a camera lens. More than enough to keep me away from daytime TV, bingo and a shed on the allotment.
