Moritz Jäger (b. 1983). Born and raised in the Swiss Alps in Arosa and Chur, Graubünden, Switzerland. Currently living in Zurich. I am primarily a painter, but some time ago I began cutting my paintings and weaving them into one another. My recent work focuses on transformation: first dissolution and deconstruction, followed by rebuilding and reconstruction. The dissolution of the old is a prerequisite for the emergence of the new. The original elements are detached from place and time and reassembled into a kind of floating space—an in-between world. The transformation this space has undergone remains visible and in fact forms the foundation of the space itself. It is a space that is comprehensible, yet unsettling and disorienting. Someone once said: too clear for ambiguity, but too ambiguous for clarity.
