The form of this blackberry is what inspired me to paint it. It's texture allows for so many variations of light, it's almost as if you can feel the shape in your hands. The velvety darkness of the blackberry's skin is brought to life with shades of deep purples, reds, pinks, yellow, and hints of black, creating a mesmerizing interplay of light and shadow. I very carefully rendered the blackberry's surface, trying to allow the viewer to almost feel the smoothness. Drops of glistening moisture delicately trace the contours of the berry, capturing the ephemeral droplets left behind after a light summer rain. The blackberry dominates in composition, demanding attention with the close-up in which the photo was taken. The bright, intense light casts shadows that add depth and dimension to the painting.
