ABOUT THE ARTWORK
On June 4, 1944, the BBC broadcast this sentence from the obscure French poet Paul Verlaines: "Blesse Mon Coeur d'une longueur monotone." German intelligence translated the sentence immediately (Verwundet mein Herz mit eintoeniger Mattigkeit/Wound my heart with a monotonous languor), but found no interest in it. The French resistance knew then that the invasion of the Normandy would take place within 48 hours, and began disrupting German communications, exploding ammunition depots, and lighting landing areas for allied paratroopers and airplanes.
