ARTIST STATEMENT Suwichada Busamrong Press As an artist, Suwichada wants her art to translate the culmination of her experiences and emotions to the viewer to help them better understand themselves and gain a deeper appreciation of their life and the world around them. This process is therapeutic for her as well. Suwichada’s language is color, exploring how to express her memories and imagination. She is always searching for color inspiration from natural beauty from her life’s journey. She has a passion for traveling and gaining insights into how nature connects the colors we see with how we feel. Her process begins with hand drawings to create texture, mark making, pouring colors and mixing them on a canvas field. She explores her inner peace, mindfulness, meditation and a sense of movement through abstract expression. About the Artist Suwichada’s unique and colorful background began in a small quaint farming village in the Isaan, Northeast region of Thailand. Her mother was a well known silk artist and weaver. Suwichada learned the art and craft of making expressive colors from natural dyes and creating the finest Thai silk, stimulated by the river and mountains surrounding her village. She developed an appreciation for art and color as her mothers apprentice and begin blending her childhood memories, rooted in tradition, with a distinctive contemporary flavor. She moved to the US in 2006 and started learning English at Hunter College, New York. She studied Interior design and Fiber at College for Creative Studies in Detroit and received a bachelor degree in 2013, and received a master degree in Architecture from Cranbrook Academy of Art, Bloomfield Hill in 2015. After graduating she moved to Dallas, Texas. Opened her own studio and began developing color theory and her own painting style to express her innermost emotion and voice. She began working with transparent fabric installations until she perfected a distinctive contemporary painting technique. She currently lives in Hermosa Beach, and established Suwichada Studio at Hawthorne Arts Complex in Hawthorne city, California since 2019.
