About the Artist

Phil Gayter

United States

I have painted forever, from growing up in Manchester, England, through my years in corporate life in London and Chicago. I have taught painting, explored painting, shown paintings, and sold paintings, too, but ultimately, I live for painting. I have works in private collections worldwide and three exceptional pieces in the hallways of Sinai Hospital in Chicago. I am an identical twin, and I have done several shows with my brother, experimenting with the notion of twins creating work collaboratively.

PAINTING STYLE AND EQUIPMENT

I paint with acrylic on canvas, utilizing pen and pencil where necessary.
I was heavily inspired by the work of Andrew Wyeth and the Italian Renaissance
movement, sometimes photo-realistic, sometimes impressionistic.
I like the speed at which the paint dries, as it allows me to work quickly and
capture the effects I am looking for. I also enjoy the adaptability of acrylic paint as it enables me to go from a simple wash
to a heavy overlay instantly.
