ABOUT THE ARTWORK
I consider my mandalas a peaceful and beautiful metaphor for the centrifugal force that runs the universe. I've emphasized the transcendental nature of this painting by adding stars in the spaces between the leaves. After making my sketch I paint the entire canvas red and then create the image with thin glazes of oil. The presence of red in the underpainting adds depth and complexity to the cobalt blue of the painting.

Although I'm a native of the East Coast, after working in Santa Barbara since 1976 and the California light, colors, and aesthetic has been the strongest influence on my work.
