ABOUT THE ARTWORK

As part of my "Lost in the Fields" series, this rabbit is a motif of the comical way in which technology is disrupting our daily lives. Even the rabbit, with its finely equipped sensory suite, cannot resist the addictive and alluring nature of electronic gadgets. Oblivious to its own ironic look, it plugs its lovely ears with two plastic buds. Floating away from the real world, the rabbit stares forward, eyes glazed, lost to the music deep in the fields.

I live and work just minutes from the beautiful cliffs of Dover, UK. Artistic inspiration often strikes while I'm strolling along the chalky cliffs or exploring the dark flint beaches. There's nothing like a stormy sea to stir the soul. Simply put, my mission as an artist is to distill nuanced feelings into their simplest visual forms. This can come to expression in surprising ways. By this I mean ways that surprise me. As I'm creating, my art often takes unexpected directions. I try to go with the flow of each piece and see where it leads. Often I am swept into abstract and surreal landscapes. I like to do artwork about the challenges that face humanity. Of late I’ve been preoccupied with the tragicomic way that technology is reshaping our lives. We all live in a beautiful world, but so often people are captives to a digital realm, trying to keep up with their socials to remain relevant in a world that's moving too fast. I’m inspired to solve problems. But I don’t make art to solve problems. I make art for art’s sake. If my work conveys a social message, all the better. Ultimately, my artistic intention isn't didactic. It’s about bringing the viewer a certain feeling. Maybe it will be a feeling of joy. Maybe it will bring a chuckle of mirth. Maybe a deeply unsettling feeling. It’s not for me to say. Every viewer will get a unique takeaway. Art keeps evolving, that’s why I don’t limit myself to certain genres. I work in many mediums, but most recently my work is in Acrylics. I also love woodwork and I sometimes incorporate that into my art. I hope you enjoy my work as I continue my exploration.
