Work motivated by several life events mixing. Recently Laurence saw painting of a Tiger. Rendered in photo-realism. To some, such familiarity gives a cosy, feel-good feeling. Yet doesn't help viewer see anew. Could have been on velvet? Or should have been. Laurence could see no brush strokes, no surface irregularities. Perfectly smooth to touch, like car bodywork, with varnish patina. Laurence admits he knows very little about Giclee or sublimation but guesses work is product of some such like. Using a computer enhanced photographic base? Maybe. As for subject(s) there wasn't a scintilla of irony. Not Laurence's taste, but to each his own. Upon hearing insurance value Laurence was astonished, but not impressed. Speechless at monumental business-art. That led to his memory of another fine day, years before. Alone, up close and personal with a Tiger. Real, live Tiger. Laurence remembers feeling intrigued, interested, calm, but not scared, if that makes sense. Perhaps Laurence was lucky and big cat had just eaten? However, being in that fraught situation was yet more evidence to Laurence that his life was valued at nothing. Laurence remembers, for all Tiger's supposed magnificence and fight, an overwhelming stink of animal. Oh how it stank. Tiger vanished. Laurence's memory fast reverses more years. Remembering a girl, who he had thought pretty, or had makings of pretty. Some negotiation, should we? or shouldn't we? Afterwards, at her place, furnished with shower and bath, Laurence got into her bed, where she lay. She arched her naked body and flung her arms back. The reek of body odour was overwhelming. Unforgettable. She lazy? Another who valued Laurence at nothing? Laurence made his excuses, took his self-respect, and exited. Was Laurence unaware of his brush being guided by memory for part of this painting? A cautious maybe. Oh how she stank. Two stinkers? Laurence?
