You’ve heard of the saying ‘the heart rules the head’ but in real life, things are never that simple. Erick Mota Oil Painter | NJ/NYC, NY I am an oil painter whose work explores the deep intersections of psychology, identity, and the human condition. With a doctorate in psychology, I approach painting not only as a visual pursuit but as an exploration of the subconscious — where memory, emotion, and hidden narratives collide. For the past seven years, I have dedicated myself fully to painting, using oil as my primary medium. Its richness and slow-drying nature allow me to layer thought, symbol, and feeling onto the canvas — much like the layers of the human psyche. Each piece is created to provoke reflection, inviting the viewer to confront both what they see and what they feel. My work has been exhibited widely, from New York City galleries to international art fairs, including Spectrum Miami, Art Santa Fe, and Art Expo New York. One of my most notable moments was seeing my work displayed in Times Square, stretched 22 stories high. Alongside these exhibitions, I have been honored with several international art awards, each affirming my belief that art is not only to be seen, but to be experienced. Influenced by street culture, philosophy, and the raw energy of New York City, my style combines bold brushwork, layered symbolism, and vibrant color. I aim to create works that are not just decorative, but transformative — visual dialogues that reach into the inner world of the collector. For me, art is a conversation. It begins in the studio, but it’s only complete when the work finds its home with someone who sees themselves reflected within it.
