Oil Putty (Painted) on Cellotex
2016

This painting has been with me for some time now however only recently have I finally managed to get it on the wall. It's a larger work framed also by me in a simple box frame with a gilded leaf front. It deals with a repetitive pattern seen a lot in my work, I guess I naturally came upon it and have carried the idea forward. Very abstract and minimal in nature, I like to think the work also contains a deeper theoretical meaning. In the past I have titled similar works as 'machines', both as systems regarding things man-made as well as possibly a nod towards the systems found in nature. In some ways I'd also say the work approaches the cynical and mundane, a monotonous and never-ending process much like the way certain areas of society are today. They are stripped back and bare works, focusing on line, negative and positive space, and have a surface quality I find interesting to deal with.

The piece has become quite heavy due to the wooden re-support I have used as well as the box frame the work sits in. The work itself is about 13kg (30pounds)

The Artist: My focus is on creating abstract and minimalist paintings that explore the relationship between colour, form, and space. I believe that by simplifying the elements in a painting, I can create a more powerful and emotive composition. My goal is to create work that is visually striking, yet also thought-provoking and open to interpretation. The minimalism in my paintings is not a lack of content, but rather a way to distill the most essential elements, leaving room for the viewer to find their own meaning and connection to the work. My abstract paintings are a reflection of my innermost thoughts and feelings, and I hope that they can evoke a similar response in those who view them. In my work, I strive to push the boundaries of traditional painting techniques, experimenting with different mediums and textures to create a sense of depth and movement. I find inspiration in both the built environment and the natural world, as well as in the work of other artists past and present. My process is intuitive, starting with a basic idea or feeling and allowing the painting to evolve organically. I often work in layers, building up the surface of the canvas with multiple applications of paint. This allows me to create a sense of depth and movement, as well as to incorporate unexpected elements into the composition. Overall, my work is a reflection of my ongoing exploration of the fundamental elements of painting and my desire to create work that is both visually striking and emotionally resonant. - Elliot received a BA (Hons) in Fine Art from the Manchester School of Art and studied architecture at the Manchester School of Architecture. He exhibits his work frequently within London and the UK. His work can be found in private collections in Europe and the U.S, and also in the School of Arts, Languages and Cultures department, University of Manchester. In August, 2021, he completed a large mural for the entrance to Bonhams Auction House, situated on New Bond Street in the heart of London. “Elliot Minor is a young and exciting artist who we are very happy to exhibit. We won't bang on in extravagant hyperbole about his ability - see for yourself at the Fair” Nicholas Bowlby Fine Art - Affordable Art Fair, Battersea October 2021 - Edit from 2016, Saatchi Art Curator Jessica McQueen, ‘One to Watch’- “Elliot Minor’s minimalist abstracts are rooted in nature.
