A modern building in the process of renovation in Bristol, England. The artist depicts the elements responsible for the physical decay of the urban environment in primary colours. The image is from a series of paintings highlighting the interaction between nature and structural relics of the industrial past. It originated as a semi abstracted vision of photographs taken in the artist's formative years and which were taken with chaotic symbolism conveying the mystery and trepidation of his sojourns around the city. The natural components including plants, animals and microbes are highlighted in bold primary colours, with the man made architecture forming a grey scale backdrop. The intention is to depict the restoration of environmental balance and a hope that solutions can be found to societies environmental problems. The style is naive and expressionistic with influences from the work of A.Wallis, M. H. Pechstein and L. S. Lowry.
