My art is shaped by memory, identity, and the search for a connection between old structures and new possibilities.” Tony Weiß (b. 1985, Karl-Marx-Stadt) – Painter & Architect, Bern He lives and works in Bern. His artistic practice is strongly influenced by his East German origins and the societal upheavals of the 1990s. In his works, he processes personal memories, collective experiences, and fragmented identities within the tension between past and present. His figurative compositions oscillate between fairy-tale-like imagery and real social spaces, between memory and political legibility. Urban elements meet symbolic figures, mythical creatures, and gestural abstractions. Weiß works deliberately with color, space, and fragmentation. His figures capture moments of pause or inner tension, telling quiet stories of belonging, memory, loss, resistance, and transformation. From seemingly insignificant found objects—old materials—he creates hand-painted, unique compositions that reflect the ruptures and opportunities of his heritage. His works are aesthetically powerful while simultaneously reflecting East German culture and social history. Tony Weiß invites viewers to see the past anew, with emotional depth, poetic narration, and contemporary relevance.
