CALLIGRAMATURE # 2 Painting

Artistic calligraphy in the West is quite different from artistic calligraphy in the East. While the latter is ideographic, that is, the sign carries within itself the signifier and the signified, the former is, in principle, arbitrary, which means that the sign is a linguistic and cultural convention that associates signifier and signified. I say this because this series of calligrams is an exercise in Western calligraphy, in which sign and meaning are radically separated, so that what remains is gesture, movement, rhythm, scribbling without linguistic content, which exposes time and space. in a pure manifestation of the artist's body, being, therefore, at the same time, painting, calligraphy, dance and drawing. This work is a triptych made on different types of support, eucatex and canvas, on which a single gesture made with a wide flat brush with Bitume da Judea produced the long image that crosses them.
