"Color & Shape" is a group of 6 works, which are born from a constant study on the relationship between colors through the way they interact, or fit, within each other. Earthy, pastel, vibrant tones are chosen to create a composition. What results is the perception that each color shines a different light next to another color, varying as we change positions. The shape is born from the manipulation of the paper, in this case an A4 sheet, crumpled until finding a unique and exclusive outline for each work. Above all, it has impact on its simplicity, almost as if it were stripped of any complications, so that it can be appreciated for what it is: a study on color. Color & Shape is sold as one work, and each work measures 30 x 20 x 2 cm. If you position them altogether (like in the first picture above) they measure a minimum of 126cm of length. They are framed with wooden backs and acrylic glass, both cut to measure. I'm a 25 y/o Portuguese Artist, who follows a daily studio practice, located in the mountainesque landscape of a green and beautiful village in Northen Portugal. There's a need for space that I encounter in the countryside, and nature has a direct impact in all the works I create. All works are made with an awareness to detail, yet remain creations of a human being, and therefore carry that "humanity" in details and marks that are left purposefully to remind ourselves of our, and art's, imperfect and impermanent nature.

Sebastião Paz Costa’s works draw from queer existence, allowing for the fleeting moment to become an object of prolonged contemplation. Working across various mediums, painting is used as a dance that releases, expands, intensifies and intertwines. A fascination with the body takes form in autobiographical figures that often seem relaxed. Drawings turn into paintings, where time transcends linearity through an amalgamation of feelings and memories, giving shape to intensified versions of reality. Surfaces are brushed with thoughtful color pallets and repetitive gestures, conversations with the self open up hidden desires, an interplay between light and shadow. Sebastião Paz Costa (b. 1995 in Porto, Portugal) is an artist working with painting and drawing. He completed his BFA in Fine Arts - Multimedia in 2019 at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto. He’s currently based in Esposende.
