ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Handmixed acrylic, ink, enamel, and collage on raw Belgian linen with stretched canvas backer; framed as three panels that ship ready to hang. 114” x 74” x 2” frames included (spacing between panels will increase coverage size). The artist will accept commissions in custom colors and other size configurations. Please contact a curator for more information on these options. Artist Statement: Although most of my paintings contain dozens-upon-dozens of thin pigment layers, many of my favorite paintings by other artists have very few.  With the introduction of this collection, my intent was to extend my celebration of nuanced color in more minimalist formats.  Color has a profound effect on mood and sensory arousal. In this exploration, color is clearly of foremost importance, as it is in all my paintings. But here, the composition considerations take a very evident back seat, leaving a quieter space for the viewer to more fully immerse within the colorplay.  As my explorations progressed, I started displaying some of my colorfields in vertical stacks and found myself connecting, yet again, with the notion of the deconstructed landscape. I have come to see the individual colorfield panels as embodiments of earth, water, air, and fire, and new paintings will further explore these associations in highly abstracted, landscape-inspired arrays.

Stacey Warnix is an American lyrical abstraction painter who uses gestural methods to render large-scale, non-representational paintings over raw textile.  Her paintings explore the experiential affect of nuanced color and scale, using layers of disparate translucency and contrasting textures to subtly shift the perception, light reflectivity, and luminosity of her landscape-inspired color fields. Introduced to representational oil painting by an artist grandmother, Stacey created paintings and collages throughout her school years, winning frequent awards, but ultimately pursued a professional career in law and finance. She lived and worked professionally in California and London before moving to Texas, where she started painting again. Stacey experimented with gestural abstraction and became enamored with the process as a meditative escape. Today, she paints to escape a world of precision, finding respite in abstract forms, textures, and tones. Stacey’s paintings feature nuanced layers of mixed media pigments interspersed with collage. Her extensive years in residence along the California coastline made an indelible impression and that influence shows throughout her body of work, with marked visual references to time-worn, hazy memories of light-filled coastal vistas.
