Alessandro Sevà lives in Turin where he was born in 1981. As a young artist he graduated in 2000 the Cottini Art School and in 2005 he graduated from the Albertina Academy of Fine Arts in Turin, presenting a thesis on etching and engraving. In his production there are works that show different languages: among them stand out watercolor and mixed media. His personal research is rooted in the past, drawing on Renaissance themes, such as still life and vanitas, but distorting and revisiting these subjects in a contemporary key. His works are a journey through the sweet notes of watercolors and the darker ones of mythological, macabre, gothic and occult imagery. In delineating the physical traits, a precise attention to anatomical representation emerges and a psychology interpretation that reveals typically human weaknesses and passions. The constant analysis of nature is manifested through a wise use of color and a marked sensitivity in managing light. The punctuality with which the works are described reveals a Flemish inspiration embraced by expressionist notes. Among his works there is a conspicuous realization of notebooks, in which his artistic flair travels in complete freedom, wherever he is. His paintings are permeated by numerous inspirations, coming from the artistic, literary and scientific fields. His works, although they can arouse strong emotions such as restlessness and melancholy, conceal a secret ironic and provocative taste.
